“Yes!” ~ TNT Announcer Marv Albert
Thanks to Marv Albert, NBA announcer on TNT, we recite, “yes!” whenever we passionately affirm something.
That’s because Albert vocalized “yes!” at key times in big games during his 30 year broadcasting career.
Albert’s famous “yes!” is as famous as Univision announcer Andres Cantor’s emphatic “Gooooooooooooal” whenever a soccer goal is cored or ESPN’s Chris Berman’s methodical and punctuated, “He…could…go…all…the…way!”
NBA fans will never forget the velvet voiced sportscaster’s reporting of some iconic moments in league playoff history. For example:
Patrick Ewing’s game tying missed lay-up as time expired in Game 7 of the 19995 Eastern Conference Finals;
Michael Jordan’s cocky shoulder shrug during his 35 first half point performance in Game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals;
LeBron James’ buzzer beater in Game 2 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals;
Spike Lee’s jawing with Reggie Miller during Game 5 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Finals; and Robert Horry’s game winning three point shot during Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals.
Though basketball fans enjoy Albert’s play-by-play analysis and insightful commentary on NBA action, they’ll always remember him for his simple, three word affirmative remark.
“Yes!” Marv Albert has been really good in the broadcast booth!
