American basketball fans have always revered NBA players and have eagerly embraced the game’s singular named stars like today’s LeBron, Kobe and Carmelo as well as yesterday’s Hall of Famers Magic, Michael and Bird.
In the same way, simple nicknames of Brazilian national team players have captivated the Beautiful Game’s die hard followers.
Throughout the years, icons from the past like Pele and Garrincha, legendary scorers Ronaldo and Ronaldinho from a decade ago, and today’s current stars like Fred, Hulk, Oscar, Jo and Neymar have been lionized for their unique single name monikers.
However, my favorite has always been the nickname of striker Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite or simply Kaka. A former Brazilian national team member, Kaka won a World Cup when he played on his country’s 2002 winning side in Japan.
Also, a former AC Milan and Real Madrid player, Kaka just signed on with the new Orlando City Lions team in Major League Soccer.
Kaka is my inspiration for today’s blog.
Always happy to jump start the work week with some silly sports humor, here’s my latest Monday Sports Monologue.
The monologue may be a few years old, but it’s as relevant, and funny, today as it was when I first recorded it.
Click on the yellow image above and listen to my 60 second take on the endearing nickname of Kaka – and – not “ka’ ka” as the nutty monologue suggests!
MIKE – thee ultimate talking head on sports!
