#TBT Sports Blog: Broad Street Bullies’ Bobby Clarke

Even though my favorite hockey player ever once played for a team appropriately named the Philadelphia Flyers, it’s still difficult for me to fathom how quickly time can fly by.

Seems like yesterday that Bobby Clarke was skating effortlessly up and down the Spectrum Arena ice in Philadelphia in his orange, black and white #16 Flyers jersey.

But yesterday, I learn that the former NHL star, who hailed from tiny town of Flin Flon, Manitoba, celebrated his 65th birthday.

As a way of wishing this three-time NHL Most Valuable Player, I’m honoring Clarke today by making him the subject of my Throw Back Thursday sports blog.

FREE Book Worst About Sports: Philadelphia Sports

Philadelphia has routinely furnished the sports media world with front page fodder. Historically, the city’s fans and professional teams have been deemed by many as the worst in sports.

Favorite Flyers in Sports: Broad Street Bully Bobby Clarke

With the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals scheduled to start this week, it’s only fitting that one of the chapters in my newest sports comic book features a former NHL MVP and two-time Stanley Cup champion.

My nostalgic choice is a creative addition to a sports comic book that highlights my favorite high flyers in sports.

The book touts the NFL’s Megatron, the NBA’s former Human Highlight Reel, a hovering Helicopter like pick-up basketball player, the NCAA’s fictional dunking fraternity, an Olympic champion known as the Buckeye Bullet and another soaring track star who broke the mold of what housewives were expected to do a generation ago.

My pick flew around the ice on skates donning a Philadelphia Flyers jersey. Check out the following excerpt from my book…..
