Today’s Ugly Loss Beckons Fans to Recall 1980 USA Hockey Miracle on Ice

The date February 22nd may be permanently etched in the minds of USA Olympic Hockey Team fans for two totally different reasons.

This morning, USA hockey fans witnessed one of the worst performances in USA Olympic hockey history.

In the bronze medal game at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, a feisty Finnish team demoralized a lifeless USA squad.

The Finns beat the Yanks 5 – 0. Internationally regarded as a high scoring squad, the Americans lacked fire power and were shockingly shutout for the second game in a row.

USA Hockey’s performance in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games will be something American fans will want to quickly forget.

However, let’s turn our hockey clocks back 34 years to February 22, 1980 and remember perhaps the greatest time in USA Hockey history.
