Thierry Henry’s breakaway speed, splendid soccer skill and passion for life (popularized by Renault Clio television commercials in Europe) spawned his nickname Va Va Voom.
It’s no surprise that this electrifying, handsome Frenchman has been long regarded as one of the world’s top strikers, a global fan favorite and one of the best players ever in Major League Soccer history.
“The decision has always been that I would leave after the duration of my contract,” Henry said.
The highly skilled Frenchman will be missed by MLS fans for far more than his flashy footwork on the football pitch.
Though he never won a MLS Cup during his four and a half years with the Red Bulls, Henry will be remembered for serving as an ambassador for the beautiful game. Like David Beckham, Henry helped advance the sport on American soil.
Henry left Europe over four years ago to sign with the New York Red Bulls. His storied career included stints with the world’s top football clubs. He played for Juventus in Italy’s Serie A, Arsenal in the English Premier League and FC Barcelona in Spain’s La Liga.
In addition to his coveted World Cup Championship with France in 1998, Henry’s trophy case comprises two EPL titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal and an astounding six total titles with FC Barcelona. In 2009, he helped Barca win the UEFA Champions League title.
It’s easy to understand why soccer fans always showed their love for the highly accomplished and immensely popular Henry whenever and wherever he hit the pitch by showering him with thunderous chants of Va Va Voom!
Here’s wishing the beloved Frenchman success in his next endeavor as a adviser, coach or executive.
Fans are happy to hear that Henry plans to remain involved in the sport he played with such excellence and panache.
