It may not be podium favorite in Sochi, but the Jamaican Bobsled Team is certainly crowd a pleaser.
Led by pilot Winston Watts, the Jamaican Team returns to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia after failing to qualify in 2006 in Torino, Italy and in 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.
In spite of losing their luggage in route to Sochi, the Jamaicans maintained their generally upbeat attitudes. They received their runners (blades for sleds), helmets, sliding suits and shoes yesterday and immediately took to the Sanki Sliding Center for practice runs.Continue reading

Even though my favorite hockey player ever once played for a team appropriately named the Philadelphia Flyers, it’s still difficult for me to fathom how quickly time can fly by.
Seems like yesterday that Bobby Clarke was skating effortlessly up and down the Spectrum Arena ice in Philadelphia in his orange, black and white #16 Flyers jersey.
But yesterday, I learn that the former NHL star, who hailed from tiny town of Flin Flon, Manitoba, celebrated his 65th birthday.
As a way of wishing this three-time NHL Most Valuable Player, I’m honoring Clarke today by making him the subject of my Throw Back Thursday sports blog.Continue reading
