Some basketball fans argue that saying there’s a lid on the basket is another tiresome, overused sports cliché that fails to report the obvious.
I agree. Announcers need to call bad shooting, well, bad shooting!
During March Madness, let’s not make excuses for the brick laying team by implying there’s an invisible lid on their basket.
But, let’s give credit to defensive minded teams which contest every shot, aggravate shooters and deny opposing players time and space on the court to freely launch their shots.
Still, it would be funny imagining ESPN actually report on this cliché.
As the comic depicts, seeing an actual steel lid seal shut the top of the rim might give fans a real hoot!
